Researcher, internal medicine resident, nurse educator join faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

David Patrick Gordy, Ph.D.

Dr. David Patrick Gordy, a scientific researcher at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of radiology.

After receiving his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Mississippi in 2004, Gordy earned his M.B.A. at Jackson State University in 2009 and his Ph.D. in clinical health sciences at UMMC in 2017. He served as an English instructor at Hangzhou Dianzi University, Zhejiang, China, from 2006-08 and as a researcher at UMMC from 2010-18.

Gordy is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Management Honor Society and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and is the author or coauthor of multiple articles published in peer-reviewed professional publications. He has given several presentations at scientific meetings nationwide and has contributed to numerous research collaborations.

 

Murphy Hinson, D.O.

Dr. Murphy Hinson, recently an internal medicine resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in medicine.

After receiving his B.S. in biological sciences from Mississippi State University in 2010, Hinson earned his D.O. at the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2015. He then had an internal medicine residency at UMMC and at the G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He is currently serving as chief resident in the Department of Internal Medicine at UMMC.

An active member of the American College of Physicians, Hinson has coauthored an article to be published in the Mississippi Medical Journal and three abstracts presented at scientific meetings. He volunteers at the Jackson Free Clinic.

 

Teresa A. Jones, M.S.N.

Teresa A. Jones, a nurse educator and outreach coordinator in the School of Nursing at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in nursing.

Her main focus will be collaborating with the UMMC Telehealth Center of Excellence to create and implement a telehealth curriculum at all levels of nursing at the UMMC School of Nursing.

Jones also has recently been promoted as director of clinical services at the UNACARE Clinic, one of eight nurse-run clinics by the School of Nursing. UNACARE is a primary care clinic that serves infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. UNACARE is located at 258 Fortification Street in the Midtown Community of Jackson. Jones said she is looking forward to joining the UNACARE team to continue providing excellent patient care to that community.

After receiving her A.D.N. from Hinds Community College in 1994, Jones served as a plastic surgery coordinator at St. Dominic Hospital for five years and an instructor and chairperson in surgical technology at Hinds Community College for five years. President and owner of Automotive Ventures, Inc. from 2000-14 and co-founder and owner of Text Services, LLC, Jones came to the Medical Center in 2010 as a nurse and earned her B.S.N. at the Mississippi University for Women in 2013. In 2014, she became an otolaryngology coordinator nurse at UMMC and ultimately a nurse educator/outreach coordinator for the School of Nursing. Jones is working on obtaining her M.S.N. at UMMC with an emphasis in nursing and health care administration.

Past president of the Mississippi Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association, Jones has served on numerous committees. She is a member of the Mississippi Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association and the Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses. She is a certified nurse of operating room, Master Trainer TeamStepps and Epic super-user.
